The Unexpected Partnership Commissions

Culture Within Newham - formerly known as World on our Doorstep – is the new Creative People and Places project for Newham. We are looking for collaborative projects that celebrate culture and creativity across Newham through ‘unexpected’ partnerships.

By ‘unexpected’ partnerships, we mean new creative collaborations between people, groups or organisations who do not usually work together. We hope that we can spread ideas across the borough as well as across different professional fields, neighbourhoods, and resident communities.

We’re looking for partnerships that are interested in setting up an arts or cultural project for Newham. We will provide up to £15,000 for between 6-9 projects this round.

The Ideas Lab

If you are interested in this commission but do not currently have a partnership team or project idea, we are hosting a free ‘Ideas Lab’ on 9 May 2023. You don’t have to attend the event to apply for the Creative Partnerships Commission, but we do very much recommend it.

We are inviting arts organisations, artists, and community organisations of different kinds to explore what new opportunities for arts or cultural activity could be developed within their communities.

This in-person creative workshop and networking event aims to:

• Provide support around co-creation of art events

• Provide support around inclusive partnership working

• Help you to meet a potential partnership team - supporting new collaborations to emerge.

The event will be led by Chris Rolls FRSA, and will be followed by a free networking lunch.
