Another exciting year! CWN funding extended

Written by Lalah-Simone Springer

We are excited to announce that Culture Within Newham has been granted an additional year of funding by Arts Council England. This funding will allow us to continue our programme between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026.

Culture Within Newham is part of the Creative People and Places programme,  supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Thanks to National Lottery players, Creative People and Places is about more people taking the lead in choosing, creating and taking part in creative and cultural experiences in the places where they live.

At Culture Within Newham, our focus is:

  • Co-creating a creative programme

  • Increasing local engagement with the arts

  • Supporting local decision making

  • Building expertise

  • Collaborations and connections

  • Creative opportunities.

There are 38 Creative People and Places projects in England, covering 55 local authority areas where involvement with creativity and culture is significantly below the national average. Arts Council England’s aim with this project is to help unlock the social and economic benefits of creativity and culture for more people in more places.

Making an impact

In our first year as a Creative People and Places programme, we focused on making connections in the borough. From April 2023 to March 2024, Culture Within Newham has engaged with more than 500 people directly as project participants, and with over 15,000 people indirectly as audience members, both in person and online. Our website has had 29,568 visits since the launch in February this year.

Since 2012, there have been over 15 million engagements with the CPP programme across England and 90%[1] of people who participate in CPP weren’t previously engaging regularly with creativity and culture.

Creative People and Places is a ground-breaking programme where programmes test new approaches and share that learning with others, meaning more creative individuals and cultural organisations will be able to develop more relevant work with more communities across the country.

Find out more about each project, the difference the programme has made and our learning.
