Wonderful Women of Newham: Free Drawing Workshop

  • Community Links 105 Barking Road London, England, E16 4HQ United Kingdom (map)

Detail of map artwork by local artist Elena Juzulenaite

Price: Free

We’d like to celebrate International Women’s Day all year round, and so we’ve commissioned artist Elena Juzulenaite and women’s heritage expert Rosanagh Fuller to recreate their Wonderful Women of Newham map to be displayed on the façade of the Community Links building in Canning Town.

To celebrate this beautiful new artwork, we’d like to invite locals of all ages and genders to join us for a drawing workshop led by Elena Juzulenaite. Get your hands dirty with charcoal while learning about ways to draw the stories of women that are important to you.

The drawing workshop happens at Community Links from 2.30pm to 4pm. All drawing materials will be provided.

All ages are welcome, but the drawing workshop works best for those over 7 years old.

Please let sophie.crocker@culturewithin.org.uk know if you have any access requirements.

The drawing workshop happens straight after a guided walking tour along the route on the map, which tells the story of the women workers of Newham’s shops, docks and factories. You can find more information about the walking tour here.

In partnership with

Elena and Rosanagh originally created the Wonderful Women of Newham map as part of a Newham Heritage Month commission by the East End Women’s Museum.
