Creative Pathways Project

A wearable art piece made from cardboard

Overview

Offering workshops and events on themes such as fashion, gaming, architecture and fine art, the Creative Pathways Project aims to inspire young people and broaden perceptions of the opportunities that exist within the creative economy.

Led by Art in the Docks, Creative Pathways brings together artists, creatives and current UEL students for immersive workshops during enrichment days at Oasis Academy Silvertown to create connections between secondary school students and those studying and working in the creative industry.

Age gaps may be relatively small between university students and secondary school students. The focus is on creative study being presented as an appealing and realistic prospect through the relatability of the small age gap. Plus, involvement in the workshop programme provides paid experience for current students that allows them to position themselves well for life beyond university.

Workshops so far have included:

  • Fantasy Wearable Art, led by Daniele from Unlikely Studios, where students were invited to think outside the box and create silhouettes and sculptures inspired by animal features out of cardboard,

  • Design a Range of Training Shoes, led by Artist Hernan Guardamagna, which asked young people to design trainers for a national team competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics,

  • Film Making with current UEL student Esmond, where small groups made films according to the brief ‘A Day In The Life of an Oasis pupil’, combined with a genre (chosen by spinning a wheel!) and went through the process of storyboarding and filming.
